Announcement for Global Secular Humanist Movement Members

Speaking at Humanists of Houston

Speaking at Humanists of Houston

Dear GSHM Members,

My name is Faisal Saeed Al-Mutar, and I am the founder and sole administrator of this Facebook page. One issue that has come to my attention is with respect to me asking for donations. I’m not going to do that here, so don’t worry. I am, however, going to clear up a few misconceptions:

First of all, I do not ask for donations to tide myself over here in America. We have a website, called (in which we post mainly articles written by members), which requires me to pay for a domain. Currently, the server is very slow handling traffic, and we would like to be able to have a better one. The other use is advertising for the GSHM to grow it’s fan base. Quite literally, there’s nothing else.

Secondly, those who accuse me of being a thief don’t quite realize what I intend to do with this movement. This movement is not just a Facebook page. I didn’t come to America only because I feared for my life. I came here because this place is an intellectual furnace of new ideas and a platform for me to present my visions of the future. This Facebook page is my constant, foundational stepping stone. It is also something I wish to turn into a real global organisation. Since my arrival here, I have given countless talks and interviews, including with the Yahoo  and Berkeley,California. I have an upcoming talk at Harvard University, and at TedxTalks in Houston. Next year I will be speaking at the  American Atheists National Convention in Utah.

I’m telling you this because I need you to know I take this movement seriously. This is not a dead end Facebook page whose only interest is gaining fans and trying to scrap a bit of money. This is part of a much larger pursuit that will live up to the G in its name: Global.

I don’t expect you to believe me, because of course, this movement advocates healthy skepticism, and skeptics require evidence. All I can say is that the evidence will come with the next month, and the next year, and will continue to come for as long as I have a pulse.

Thank you,

Faisal Saeed Al-Mutar

Faisal, I hate the fact that you have to explain why it takes money to keep a movement this big going! If people gave 1 dollar you could get to confrences and spread our goal. People are not used to trusting and americans need their specialty coffees and seat warmers. Give it time and live in that glass house I told you about so that people can see how you use their contributions. Proud of you!

  • Meagan_Dawkins

I love your page. It’s one of my favorites. Keep up the good work!

  • Marius Uri

You are doing the right thing. Keep it up 🙂

Sorry if this is ignorant, but I’m assuming you are of middle eastern decent. The fact that you are a middle eastern atheist speaks volumes about your intent. I have no doubt you are telling the truth because as you say you advocate healthy skepticism, you also advocate the truth which is the point of humanism. Lying to tell the truth just doesn’t make sense and would ruin your credibility and ruin what seems to be your purpose in life. In my eyes, being intelligent is mandatory to Humanism, so what concerns me is anyone who considers themselves a humanist actually believing you might be asking for donations to boost your own personal income. If they took a moment to think about how stupid that would be, just like when they took a moment to think about how stupid religious doctrine is, you wouldn’t have to post this. So that is concerning, as if this movement is being infected by people just as stupid as believers are, but posing as humanists.
